BLACK LION INN (Isle of Anglesey)

Here's another uplifting success story. Derelict for almost seven years, this Grade II listed 18th-century country inn has been reborn.

It’s all down to the energy and enthusiasm of owners Leigh and Mari. Working with architects, they have retained much of the character of the original building. The tastefully designed bedrooms have exposed beams plus king-sized beds, Egyptian cotton bedlinen, big-screen TVs and handmade oak furniture, adding contemporary touches you’d not necessarily associate with a small country inn.

The dining room is fast gaining a reputation for its food, most of which is locally sourced. Fruit, vegetable and salads are home grown when in season and meat directly from local farms is always a firm favourite with locals.

The inn, in the north-west of the island, is well located for many Anglesey attractions, including sandy beaches, the coast path, golf and fishing.
